Due to career choices, a lot of conflicts have accumulated between father and daughter, and the relationship has become estranged. And my mother, who has been helping her father with scientific research in college, has almost no time to take care of the family house. Their home decoration is a bit simple, and it also lacks the warmth of home.
With the help of the travel part of the program, the client Yan Yue hopes to have more communication with his father on the one hand to reduce his prejudice against his career; on the other hand, he also wants to give his parents who have worked hard for half their lives through the renovation of the house. A special "gift".
But Yan Yue's "career exchange" journey with his father was not so smooth. Although they have many conflicts at work, the daughter wants to stand from her father's perspective this time and give her parents the warmest heart.
Pre-renovation issues
The renovation of the house was not as simple as imagined. In order not to expose the renovation plan, the designer Zhou You first pretended to be Yan Yue's classmate, and then had the opportunity to have an in-depth conversation with Yan Yue's parents face to face to understand their actual housing needs. It is precisely because the designer went to the site for on-site inspection that many problems in the house became clearer.

The designer Zhou You decided to break the conventional decoration method and complete a lot of work before the construction. Based on the fact that my father is engaged in corn scientific research, we analyzed it from the perspective of corn. After research and discussion, we found "zeatin". "Zeatin”It is a regulator that promotes plant growth. We use "zeatin" as the source of the design concept, using it to provide a regulator for the home to promote the relationship between father and daughter.

The English name of "zeatin" is Zeatin, so we named our home in Nanjing "Z+". Firstly, "+" is the same as "home", and secondly, "+" brings unlimited space for imagination. , giving the interior a different visual effect, and also planting beautiful seeds for future life.
In the entrance hall, due to limited space, we specially designed a stowable calligraphy table for Dad, hoping that Dad can pick up his hobbies again.
In the dining area, we designed a photo wall to record the family’s journey. Through the dining area, we came to the living room. We customized their own cartoon images on the pillows of the sofa, hoping that it would bring them a little surprise when they picked up the pillows.
The original balcony had problems such as blocked sewers, inconvenience in washing mops, and poor sound insulation. Based on the current situation, we transformed the original standing cabinet that was difficult to open into a retractable tea table, so that Dad can sit here to drink tea and receive guests in his free time; we replaced the original unusable washing machine with an all-in-one washer and dryer, next to the washing machine, A storage box specially designed for mom to store laundry detergent is also designed.
The master bedroom is where parents usually rest. The overall color tone of the space is mainly comfortable apricot. We installed a reading light on the bedside table to make it easier for mom to read before going to bed.
The second bedroom is mainly occupied by my daughter, and the space will be more youthful. We projected the screen directly onto the wall and renovated the original dilapidated bay window into a warm corner so that our daughter could have her own private space.
Suitable aging is a highlight of this renovation. Designer Zhou You considered the age of Yan Yue's parents and incorporated many age-friendly designs into the house renovation process.
The kitchen uses a pull-down spice storage basket to help mothers more easily reach the items in the high cabinets, making it more convenient for mothers to cook.
In the renovated bathroom, in addition to the foldable armrests installed next to the smart toilet and the folding stool by the window of the shower room, the designer specially selected the 2021 new product of Aimei L&D Ceramics-Time series products, which are high-quality non-slip The performance ensures the safety of middle-aged and elderly people walking in the bathroom, making the space more humane.
Time is like a slowly flowing river, and parents are the small boats that carry us as we grow.
You grew up with me, and I will accompany you until old age. Designer Zhouyou chose the product "Time" not only because of the product's outstanding anti-slip properties, but also because he hoped to express his daughter's gratitude and love for her parents through "Time".

A: The biggest feeling is that I am very happy to be invited to participate in such a rapid transformation project, and to complete a design that we feel is truly good. Why we think it is a good design is because it meets our criteria for a good design.
We often talk about a good design, in addition to design value, it also has economic value and social value. First of all, the design value. I think the overall tone of our space is comfortable and good-looking, and the function is also reasonable. We have updated many home appliances and equipment, etc., which will make their future life more convenient. I think these are visually important. It fulfills its design value both functionally and functionally.
Another thing is that in such a short period of time, we completed the construction of the entire space, and used relatively clever methods in many places, which not only saved costs but also saved construction time. I think this is an economic reason behind it. value.
The last one is social value. First of all, being able to participate in this program actually conveys some of our design views through it. I think this has certain social value. At the same time, this renovation has truly promoted the harmonious atmosphere of the entire family and brought them closer to each other. In the future, more beautiful stories will happen in such a home. I think this is the social value we designed. This kind of space may also be applied to more families and help more families. I think it should be another social value behind it.
A design that can satisfy these three values will be a very good design. So I think being able to achieve this is the biggest feeling for us.
