On December 14, Casaro’s world-wide design journey started again. Designer Li Liao was ready to go on the long-awaited design journey. It is understood that this is not the first time that designer Li Liao has studied in Japan. What makes him so fond of Japanese design? Today, we interviewed designer Li Liao and discussed with him what he saw and thought while studying in Japan, as well as his persistence and exploration of design.

Reporter: What do you expect every time you visit Japan? What do you hope will be a different experience this time?
Li Liao:Every time I go to Japan, what I look forward to more is the cultural history here, understanding the inheritance and development of Chinese culture in Japan, and learning from it and applying it to our design creation. We have great expectations and yearning for Kyoto’s architecture and gardens. We want to have an in-depth understanding of the local culture and lifestyle, understand the design process, and be inspired by it.
Reporter: What is your biggest gain from this trip?
Li Liao:What I gained the most from this study tour in Japan is Japan’s humanities, social relations and the relationship with nature. Japan is a country that respects nature. It has a small geographical area, but it can introduce the natural environment into every space, fully respect the relationship between people, nature and architecture, and achieve the effect of harmony between nature and man.
Reporter: What do you think are the advantages and disadvantages of Japanese architecture or industrial design compared with our current domestic furniture industry? Is there anything we can learn from?
Li Liao:Japanese architectural design attaches great importance to the "people-oriented" design concept. We can see the care for people from the design details. For example, Japan will focus on the infrastructure and materials of the building. Special care is taken in the selection to achieve the effect of preventing earthquakes and other natural disasters through the shape and practicality of the building. This is the greatest respect for human health and life. It also inspires me a lot in my future designs. People-oriented is the soul of design.
Reporter: What does design mean to you? What concepts have you always adhered to in terms of design?
Design means helping others solve problems, and appropriateness is the best. For interior designers, there is no good standard. We must fully consider different residents, their different families and living experiences, and make design serve everyone well.
There is no end to learning and no boundaries to design. Designer Li Liao believes that there is no standard answer to design, which requires us to continuously learn and accumulate. Different designs come from different cognitions. Only by observing and experiencing different lifestyles during study tours and studying the origin of design can we create better products.
